The Isle of Arran is just a short journey away from the city centre but provides a real holiday getaway feel.

Hop on a direct train from Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour and sail across the Firth of Clyde on one of the regular ferries.

Arran is an island hot spot packed full of events this May weekend, whether you’re interested in a 12K coastal run or listening to live music.

Deoch an Dorus Music Festival is also worth checking out this weekend, with music, food tents and aerobics classes with a twist.

Fill your weekend with…Nature

You don’t need to travel far to find a land full of forests, rivers and mountains.

Trossachs National Park and Loch Lomond are less than two hours away from Glasgow and provide a real country getaway.

The loch is the largest freshwater lake in all of Scotland, with plenty of water and land based local activities to try.

Explore a multitude of islands by kayak or canoe, including Wallaby island, located just a few miles out onto the loch.

Accommodation wise, book yourself into one of the many B&Bs and hotels, or if you’re wanting to get even closer to nature, try out wild camping (it’s free too).
